Quilt Design Wizard - For Young Quilters, too!

I was doing an inventory count last night as I prepared a list for an EQ order and when I held the Quilt Design Wizard software in my hand a thought came to me - this would be a great gift idea for a child or grandchild who has shown an interest in quilting or art. Quilt Design Wizard is geared to those new to quilt design software and/or new to computers. However, kids today are so computer savvy that they would take to this software in a snap.

Quilt Design Wizard has its own website and every month a new project can be downloaded which gives you a palette of current fabrics as well as a great new quilting project. Can you image the excitement a child would have if he or she were to design their own quilt project and then be able to make it! It would also offer a wonderful opportunity to develop a shared interest with your child or grandchild.

The Electric Quilt Company has produced a video demo of QDW.  After viewing the demo, head over to the QDW website and check out December's downloadable project. At the top of the download page, there is a link to all the past projects, too.

The Blessings Quilt - Update

I have just received this block image from Anne Reimer of Winnipeg. It is the first completely prepped block for The Blessings Quilt. This quilt is going to be absolutely beautiful when completed.

Anne says the wreath and dots are all Jo Morton fabrics - I recognize every one of them! Anne did buy all her Jo Morton fabrics from Three Ducks! The background is a Jo Morton Seneca Shirting; the centre star is made from Bonnie Blue fabrics; and, the leaves were pulled from Anne's fabric stash.

The quilt will be a combined effort as the block will now be going to Anne's 89 year-old mother who according to Anne does impeccable hand appliqué. This quilt will truly be treasured when finished. I have asked Anne if she would send an update every now and then when she has time. It will be fun to watch the quilt's progress.

Toast 2 by Jo Morton

Three Ducks presents the newest Jo Morton fabrics to arrive.  I picked out and ordered four fabrics from the Toast 2 line and here they are below.

I ordered these four for a couple of reasons: a) they include the first neutral paisleys I've seen and I like squares; and, b) all four would be perfect as backgrounds for appliqué. To view the fabrics in greater detail, visit the Toast 2 page in the shopping cart and click on the fabric swatches. The largest view will show the scale in a pop-up window.
