EQ6 - Scanning Fabrics Part 3

Large Prints:
My goal over the next few weeks is to scan all my lines of Jo Morton fabrics and prepare swatches to load into EQ6's 'My Fabric Library.' For the vast majority of these fabrics, I will be able to do small pattern crops that have small file sizes and that will tile nicely in EQ6. However, there are a few fabrics that will pose a challenge and three of them are the main fabrics in the Stafford County line. The pattern repeat on these fabrics is huge; 12.5" length-wise and 21" width-wise. I cannot possible include the whole repeat and my only option will be to crop to a portion of the pattern.

I sat down the other day and played with a few ideas in Paint Shop Pro. This little tutorial will show you the solution I settled on. I will mention the steps I took; unfortunately, for times sake, I will not be explaining how to perform these steps.

EQ6 - Scanning Fabrics Part 2

There is another application available for preparing fabric scans for EQ6.  I first read about this when its developer, Arnout Cosman, posted on Info-Eq (see my blog post below). You can find Arnout's webpage here with information on how to download this software.

I have not tried this application because at the time of its release I was living in Egmont and using a dial-up connection. The operating system on my desktop was Windows XP and I would have needed to download the the Microsoft .Net Framework software which was too large for dial-up. Vista has the Framework built in and I am sure the new Windows 7 includes it, too.  I know some quilters using the mail list did try it out and were very happy with it. It does offer another alternative for getting your fabric samples ready for EQ6.

(Perhaps those using this application and who see this post, will leave a note in the comment section.)

EQ6 - Getting Help Part 2

I mentioned in an earlier post that that the Electric Quilt Company forums are a great source of information and help. There is also another great source for assistance with the program and that is through the 'Info-Eq' mail list hosted by Planet Patchwork. Like the EQ forum, this mail list is watched closely by the folks at EQ and authors of current and past EQ Companion Books.  As well, quilters who have used the program over the years through its various versions are only an email away when you have a question.

You can sign up to be added to the mail list here.  When a member, you can log in and post a question and it will go out on the mail list to all the other members.  You will often have a response the same day, or the next day from those members who subscribe to the digest of the day's posting. I strongly recommend joining.
