EQ6 - Scanning Fabrics Part 4

In this last part to my 'Scanning Fabric for EQ6' tutorial, I will show you images of my scanned, cropped, and resized fabrics.  As well, I have prepared block images that show how the fabric swatches look once they are uploaded into EQ6.

In the two images directly above and below, the fabric was scanned at 100 dots per inch (dpi) into Paint Shop Pro; and, the fabric images opened in Paint Shop Pro at a resolution of 100 pixels per inch (ppi). The fabric image was cropped to the pattern repeat, resized to a resolution of 72 ppi, sharpened and then converted to a .jpeg. The figure under each fabric swatch is the final .jpeg file size. The fabric swatches were then uploaded into EQ6's fabric library (My Library) and then used to colour these 8 x 8 inch blocks.
The reason the dotted swatch above has been cropped so large is due to the fact there are actually three different colours of dots over an odd repeat that took a few attempts to figure out. The leaf swatch .jpeg file size is large but according to Penny at EQ it is acceptable; however, you wouldn't want to produce hundreds at this size and it would be a good idea to delete these larger fabric .jpegs once you are finished designing with them.

Below are my fabric swatches used to colour a quilt's borders on the quilt worktable. Image #1 is the default quilt view. In image #2, I have zoomed in on the borders and would like to point out that I used the 'Fussy Cut' tool to line up the inner border fabric at the seam. In image #3, I have zoomed in on the junction where four blocks meet.
I hope you have found this tutorial on 'Scanning Fabrics for EQ6' helpful. It has been a definite learning experience for myself especially when it comes to Paint Shop Pro settings. I have no doubt the settings I have used may end up being slightly different for you depending on your own scanner and what photo editing program you use. However, this tutorial does give you the basic outline for producing great looking fabric swatches for EQ6.
